The beautiful baroque Church of the Glory in Rio was built in 1714 and has a peculiar figure- of- eight shaped nave and choir.

This remarkable church has a lot of history attached to it. While Dom Pedro II was married here, his daughter Princesa Isabel, was baptized here also.

The special attraction of the church is the ornate tiles and the altar carved by Mestre Valentim. If you happen to be in Rio on August 15, you can join the festa of Nossa Senhora da Glória do Outeiro, where you will get a taste of Brazilian religious celebrations.

It is considered as the first workmanship of architecture to introduce in the baroque Brazilian a new space concept, next to the baroque Italian, for the uses of the curves. It was constructed in octagonal format and covering in vault. Its architecture is a marvel which you can only wonder at. But the beauty of the church can be more appreciated during the night when the church is totally illuminated.
