Slash and burn urban redevelopment?

Were the Brazilian squatter settlements destroyed by Oct 13 fires located too far west of expected 2016 Olympic beautification projects? Not all of Brazil’s Olympic venues will be in Rio. But before we accuse neighboring metropolis Sao Paulo of slash and burn redevelopment, we’ll have to see if the displaced poor of Diogo Pires are permitted to rebuild their shantytowns, or whether they will be part of migration programs into the Amazon.
