Completed in 1909, the Teatro Municipal was built along the lines of the Paris Opera. Today, it is known for the city's orchestra, opera and ballet ensembles. It has a delightful old world charm and seems to transport you to a different era.
It is adorned in a neoclassical style, all in marble, granite and bronze and therefore is the most prestigious venue in the country for big performances. There is also a bar and restaurant and decorated with Assyrian- style mosaics.
The stunning exterior offers a taste of the beauty and elegance found within. This is truly one of the prettiest buildings of Rio De Janeiro, located in the Square Floriano, known as Cinelândia, in the center of the city. The Municipal Theatro is a spectacle of Brazil and one of most important performance venues of South America. Since its inauguration, in July14 1909, the Theatro has been graced by renowned artists.
Municipal the Theatro Foundation is part of the structure of the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Rio De Janeiro.
