Jardim Zoológico

Jardim Zoo was inaugurated in 1945 in order to give its local residents and even the tourists a glimpse of wildlife.

The zoo was recently renovated to give animals a better living space. They have a wide variety of rare and endangered Brazilian species. There is also a large walk- through aviary that is sure to thrill grown- ups and children alike. To make things even better for the kids, there is a shop selling stuffed animals from various regions in Brazil.

The zoo is housed in a spacious area of 138,000 square meters. It houses more than 2,100 animals. All sorts of reptiles, mammals and birds and many more species are kept within the zoo. It possesses the biggest collection of birds. It also displays endangered species like rubu king, ararajuba and the mico golden lion.

More than seventy thousand people visit the zoo monthly. Various schools bring children here for educational trips. They are fascinated by the variety of animals who respond to their gestures.
