Corcovado is Rio´s best- known icon and a tourist landmark which has gained worldwide popularity.

The visit to Corcovado by train is the most memorable attraction in the city of Rio. This is a concrete statue of Christ the Redeemer. It is 30 meters high. The statue presents wide open arms boldly stretched in welcome, as if to provide salvation to everyone visiting. It was built by Hector Da Silva Costa with Paul Landowsky's assistance. The majestic statue is situated in the heart of the Tijuca National Park

The base stands on the top of the Corcovado hill (710 meters) offering a magnificent view of Rio. At night, the 100 foot, 1,000 ton statue seems to float as if it were a guardian angel of the city.

Many of the other established buildings are situated very close to the famous statue. You can get a glimpse of the soccer temple Maracanã, Niterói with its snaky bridge and the hump of the Sugar Loaf.
