Museu National de Belas Artes is a haven for artists and art lovers. It was built in 1908 under the inspiration of Louvre. It is the main fine arts museum in Rio.

It takes you down memory lane. The Brazilian collection is organized in chronological order in the main gallery, and shows the evolution of fine arts in Brazil from the 19th century to this date.

Works of most famous artists such as Candido Portinari, Taunay, Pedro Américo and Victor Meirelles are represented here. Visitors can gaze at the masterpieces produced by these great artists. Some of the other galleries showcase the work of contemporary and foreign artists. Besides all these works, an interesting set of sculptures and samples of African art is also showcased here.

The Department of Conservation and Restoration of the National Museum of Beautiful Arts is responsible for equipment of guard, protection, security and preserving techniques along with restoring intervention.
