Sprawling over an area of 8 acres, the Museu do Açude is situated on the edge of the Tijuca rain forest and displays an exclusive atmosphere of gardens and woods installations by contemporary artists.

It has also the largest Brazilian public collection of Oriental art and Portuguese baroque tiles, besides earthenware garden sculptures and a luxurious mansion with antique furniture. The rich variety of art displayed here pleases the visitors.

Museu do Açude is dedicated to local history, antique furniture and objects. This small mansion was donated to Rio by Raymundo de Castro Maya in 1943. The collection contains colonial furnishings and old traditional tiles.

Sprawling within an area of 151.132m ² in the Forest of the Tijuca, the Museum of the Dam has a collection of eastern art congregated by Castro Maya, previously displayed in both the museums and now in the Museum of the Dam. It possesses rare units of Chinese sculpture, Indiana and Indochinese, as well as porcelains of diverse origins.
